Have you ever wondered what region your port delivers to? Or maybe you’re looking to see what the distribution of exported goods is and where they come from?

Our ports service a wide variety of Australian regions and this can change over time. This interactive dashboard provides information on the freight movement throughout Australia between ports and regions for all international shipments.

Date range: Most recent 5 years

About

The data presented here comes from the Department of Home Affairs' Integrated Cargo System. Data has been grouped by month, port and category of goods. Data has been aggregated to Greater Capital City or Significant Urban Area where possible, using the Australian Standard Geographical Standard. Regions with little data have been summarised to larger geographies.

The data can be useful in understanding trends around supply chains and logistics throughout Australia. Volumes of freight have been reported in tonnes and estimated value.

If you're interested in this data from a regional perspective, have a look at our Regional Flows dashboard.

Limitations

  1. Only imports and exports that are declared through customs are captured in the Integrated Cargo System. For example, only imports with a value of AUD$1000 or greater are captured. For more information, please look at the Australian Border Force’s Integrated Cargo System factsheets.
  2. Movements shown here only relate to international shipping (i.e. import or export). Domestic movements are not captured.
  3. Only aggregations which contain a minimum of 10 unique declaration numbers and 5 addresses are shown.
  4. Certain goods have been made confidential as per the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ International Trade in Goods Confidential Commodities List. These goods are only confidential for certain time periods and so, the volumes reported in the dashboard may not be exact for the full time period.
  5. Goods that are declared in alternate quantities (e.g. number of items or litres) have been converted into tonnages using modelling. As such, items that are rarely imported/exported may show unexpected tonnages.

Please note that this dashboard is optimised for web-browsers. Mobile users may experience some difficulties.
